Joshua Tree Post Acute (JT) is now hiring a new or experienced Infection Preventionist LVN/ TX nurse. JT is a 58 bed skilled nursing facility located in Yucca Valley, CA. We are interested in an experienced or motivated LVN to help lead our team. We offer extensive training for experienced or new Infection Prevention nurses, including Training/Certification for LVNs who want to become an IP nurse.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform surveillance of infections and diseases, contact investigations, containment of infectious disease outbreaks, and data collection and analysis to reduce risks and improve health outcomes.

  • Provide for the systematic collection of pertinent infection related data using the patient medical record(s), and accurately applies current Centers for Disease Control (CDC)/National Health Safety Network (NHSN) criteria for healthcare-associated infection and epidemiologic review.

  • Engage with all levels of clinicians, non-licensed staff, and leadership at the facility, VISN and National levels.

  • Communicate knowledge and understanding of evidence-based standards and mandatory requirements including those of the Veteran Health Administration (VHA), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as they relate to infection prevention and control.

  • Review current best practices in infection prevention and control and works with all healthcare disciplines to implement these practices.

  • Participate in environmental rounds including weekly Environment of Care (EOC) and Construction Safety rounds.

  • Act as a resource for infection prevention and control and provides consultation to both non-clinical and clinical staff within the healthcare system including acute care units, outpatient clinics, adult psychiatric unit (APU), and the community living center (CLC).

  • Assist in initiating and conducting appropriate epidemiological studies aimed at defining the nature, etiology, and control of hospital-acquired infections (HAI) and outbreaks.

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of infection prevention and control activities and functions as a liaison between the Medical Center, various regulatory agencies, and the medical community.

  • Serve as an active member of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and maintain data and correspondence pertaining to HAI.

  • Serve on other Medical Center committees, as directed, to communicate, educate, and provide consultation related to infection prevention and control.

  • Coordinate with state and local health departments concerning patients with reportable communicable diseases.

  • Participate in the evaluation of equipment and supplies related to infection prevention and control.

  • Collaborate with other clinical and administrative departments/staff including Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Patient Safety, Quality Management, Risk Management and Employee Occupational Health to provide information as requested for infection risk related to the environment of care, occupational injury, and communicable disease and bloodborne pathogen exposure involving patients and employees.

  • Performs other related duties, as directed.
